I am a full-time artist working in acrylics and oils, based in Tirol, Austria. Born and raised in Uganda, I have been living in Austria since 2020, first in Vienna and, since 2026, in Tirol. I create wildlife paintings, cityscapes, landscapes, seascapes featuring boats and harbours, and abstract artworks, drawing inspiration from nature, travel, and everyday encounters.
My interest in art started as a young boy, when I loved drawing a variety of subjects. I often drew for other students in my class, sometimes becoming so absorbed that I forgot about my own schoolwork. At university, I was introduced to painting and fell in love with colour and the possibilities it opened up.
After earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts, I devoted myself fully to painting. Much of my artistic development since then has been self-taught. Through independent research, studying the techniques of the Old Masters and contemporary artists, and experimenting with oils and acrylics, I have refined my painting techniques and developed my own artistic voice. This exploration continues as I keep learning, experimenting, and discovering new possibilities in painting. That ongoing discovery is one of the things I love most about being an artist.
"I paint because I don’t want to leave this world without having used the gift I’ve been given."
I feel that over time many of us have grown distant from nature. My desire to rekindle that connection is at the heart of my animal paintings. I seek to convey the spirit and presence of each animal, giving particular attention to its eyes. The conversations I've had and stories people share with me shape the emotions I express, inviting viewers to connect with the animal and recognize something of themselves. That sense of connection, of being drawn back toward the living world, is what I hope to create.
Having lived in different places, I am drawn to the atmosphere that gives each city its character. Travel inspires my cityscapes, but so do everyday moments: traffic lights glowing at night, passing headlights, and reflections across the streets. I love walking through the city in the rain and photographing the reflections it leaves behind. Lights and colours reflected on wet streets give me new ways to see a familiar place, and those discoveries find their way into my paintings.
I also love walking through the city at night, when the streets grow quieter and streetlights and city lights create a different atmosphere. These walks inspire my night paintings, while the changing light of sunset gives me another way to experience and paint the city. In some of these paintings, I move towards abstraction, allowing colour, light, and loose forms to convey the feeling of a place rather than describe every detail. From the energy of busy streets to quieter moments, I invite viewers to recall places they have known or notice something new in familiar surroundings. I hope these paintings offer a sense of recognition, whether encountered briefly or lived with every day.
I am often asked which painting is my favourite. My answer is that I am still discovering it. Each painting opens up new possibilities and gives me something to carry into the next. That sense of discovery is what I love about painting, and what keeps me creating.
